Dhani Harrison and the Wu Tang Clan clear up the confusion!

Hello

There has been some slight confusion over the Wu Tang Clan collaboration with Dhani ...

As reported here correctly on the 13th September, the track is an interpolation of the George Harrison penned 'While my Guitar Gently Weeps' .... and NOT a sample from it, which is what several media sources have been suggesting for a couple of days ...

In order to satisfy everyones curiosity Wu Tang Clan have made it possible for their version of the track - correctly titled 'The Heart Gently Weeps' to be exclusively streamed at http://www.loud.com/ today!
It will be the first single and video from the album '8 Diagrams' which is scheduled for release on December 4th.

There has also been some confusion as to what Dhani actually collaborated on the track. Some media sources were suggesting guitar, others were stating that it was the drums!!

Dhani Harrison had this to say when approached by MTV.com to clarify the details ....

"EMI freaked out about this whole thing, but it's less about a major corporation talking to another major corporation, it's more like two friends — RZA and myself — talking about working together," Dhani Harrison said. "[The RZA] asked me to see if he could use the song, which is owned by us [the Harrison Estate], and we said yes. It's not the original master — they've never been cleared — but the song is used compositionally.
"I play a bit of guitar on it, John Frusciante played some guitar too, and Erykah is on there," he continued. "I haven't heard the final version, but whatever capacity the RZA wants to use all of those parts in, I'm sure he will."

Meanwhile, the Wu Tang Clan were full of appologies and had this to say ...

"The statement on Wu-Tang Clan's myspace site is incorrect and we apologize for any confusion it may have caused. We did not sample the Beatles, rather we did an interpolation of the classic George Harrison composition 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps.' In a historic collaboration, Dhani Harrison, son of George, through his friendship with the RZA, played guitar on the song and he himself helped secure the reuse license. Also appearing on the song are John Frusciante, guitar player for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Erykah Badu singing the chorus. To satisfy everyone's curiosity, the song will be streamed exclusively on loud.com tonight. It will be the first single and video from the forthcoming album 8 Diagrams, in stores December 4."

that's all for now ...

Site update + Dhani and Wu Tang Clan reports ...

Hello everyone,

Further to my report mentioning the delay of the Wu Tang Clan's album being until 4th December, news articles are now circulating based on a report on the Wu Tang Clan's official website that the delay is to do with history being made and the magnitude of the sampled track 'While my Guitar Gently Weeps'.

The following is clipped from NMEcom ....

Rap supergroup push back album release to 'make history'
02.Oct.07 11:43pm
Wu Tang Clan have announced that they've been given permission to use a sample of a song by The Beatles for the first time ever. The rap supergroup originally said that they were covering The Beatles' 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' with George Harrison's son Dhani Harrison, as previously reported. Now the band have revealed that they've been given permission to use a sample of the song in their cover version. In a message posted today (October 2) on their website, the band wrote, "Special thanks to Danny [sic] Harrison & Erykah Badu for helping bring this song to life!! Also thanks to The Harrison Estate & The Beatles for helping make this possible!!"The band also said that they're pushing back the release date of their new album, '8 Diagrams', from November 13 to December 4 "due to the magnitude of the sample and the History being made."

More on Wu Tang Clan and Dhani

Hello everyone

Further to our breaking news in the feed from 28th July entitled 'Wu Tang Dhani!' we can now inform you of further developements in this story.

It would appear that the Wu Tang Clan have done a reworking of George Harrison's 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' with Dhani also contributing to the track.

As reported by us earlier, the collaboration will be available on the Wu Tang Clan's next album '8 diagrams.'

Group member RZA has revealed that he called Dhani after hearing that he was a big fan of the group and asked for his approval on the reworking of the track and to invite him to the studio to take part. RZA said "He's the biggest Wu Tang Fan in the world. I told him I would be honoured if he played his father's song."

The Red Hot Chili Peppers star John Frusciante also joins Dhani and the group on the track.

More details as we get them..
